No Lights No Lycra – Playlist Week 6

Playlist for week 6 was a bit more miss than hit I think.  It may have been a reflection of all of our mental spaces more than anything though.

I asked the others afterwards which tracks they liked the most, and those in bold reflect that.  I’ve been playing too many ‘dance’ anthem tracks I think.  Need more classics, been playing songs in particular that Vic thinks are too trashy.  Need to add more 80’s New Wave it seems.

  1. Cornelius – Drop 5.08
  2. Peter Bjorn And John – Young Folks 4.39
  3. Junior Senior – Move Your Feet 3.02
  4. Lady Gaga, Colby O’Donis – Just Dance 4.02

  14. Cee Lo Green – Forget You 3.43
  15. Dobie Gray – Drift Away 3.54

No Lights No Lycra – Playlist Week 5

I actually created this playlist a day in advance, good for me.  Maybe I should be posting these playlists onto the facebook page at the end of the night so people can look them up later.  Or perhaps I could be making surveys to see who likes which tracks the most.  Possibilities.  The key thing here is that I’m documenting.  Still need to make some flyers.  That should be my focus.

First few tracks are warm-ups.  Can’t really go too crazy with Cat power.  Chuck Berry should make us laugh a bit.  Hole should get us ready to get dirty.  I will be there early this week.

  1. Cat Power – Free 3.33
  2. Chuck Berry – You Never Can Tell 2.42
  3. Hole – Celebrity Skin 2.42
  4. MGMT – Electric Feel 3.50

  6. Young MC – Bust A Move 4.22
  7. Paul Simon, General M.D.Shirinda, The Gaza Sisters – I Know What I Know 3.13
  8. Rockwell – Somebody’s Watching Me – Single Version 3.56
  9. Fischerspooner – Emerge 4.48
  10. M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Booka Shade feat. Laurie Anderson – O Superman – Original 5.55
  11. OutKast – Hey Ya! 3.57

  15. Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers – The Magician Remix 4.40
  16. Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse – Valerie – Version Revisited 3.39

Created this playlist while sitting in the East Harlem Cafe.  Not bad coffee if I do say so myself.

No Lights No Lycra – Playlist Week 4

Tonight there was four of us, I was feeling a bit low because of background stuff and the spring heat was making it hard to just be silly.  I think my favourite songs were Move Your Feet, Easy and Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now).

  2. Mark Morrison – Return Of The Mack – C & J Street Mix 3.33
  3. David Bowie – Sound and Vision – 1999 Remastered Version 3.05
  4. James Brown – Living in America 4.42
  5. Junior Senior – Move Your Feet 3.02
  6. The Romantics – What I Like About You 2.55
  7. The Jacksons – Blame It on the Boogie 3.30
  8. Stereo Total – Automatic Music 3.19
  9. En Vogue – Free Your Mind 4.53
  10. Commodores – Easy 4.17
  11. C & C Music Factory – Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) 4.04
  12. Stereo MC’s – Connected 5.13
  13. Daft Punk – Harder Better Faster Stronger 3.45
  14. Patti LaBelle – Lady Marmalade 3.55
  15. Aretha Franklin – I Say A Little Prayer 3.34

No Lights No Lycra – Playlist WEEK 3

Our third week! We danced for the whole hour, but it was only myself, Vic and Hillol.  Hilol was joining us for the first time, so I added a song I knew he would love – Sister Nancy’s – “BAM BAM”.  I’ve decided to start making a separate ‘tonight’ playlist from the whole massive list.  This way the mixing is done in advance.  I’ve also decided to start keeping track of the playlists too.  Spotify was REALLY unhelpful with this, but I finally figured out how to get track names and artists.  Pity it doesn’t give timing too.

  1. Cornelius – Mic Check 3.01
  2. The Chemical Brothers – Galvanize 6.04
  3. Ice Cube, George Clinton – Bop Gun (One Nation) – Radio Edit 4.47
  4. Phoenix – If I ever feel better 4.27
  5. David Byrne & St. Vincent, David Byrne, St. Vincent – Who 3.50
  6. Bill Withers – Use Me – Single Version 3.42
  7. Seun Anikulapo Kuti & Egypt 80, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Fela Kuti & Egypt 80 – Na Oil – radio edit 4.00
  8. Sister Nancy – Bam Bam 3.17
  9. Patti Smith – Dancing Barefoot – Remastered 4.17
  10. Hercules & Love Affair – Blind – Full 6.16
  11. The Jacksons – Can You Feel It 3.52
  12. Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers – Get Lucky – Radio Edit 4.08
  13. Beyoncé – Halo 4.22

Sadly, we didn’t actually finish the Beyonce song.  An hour is never long enough!

Reflection on the Week 2/13/15

It's been an interesting week, and today is the last day before we take a weeklong break, so I'm feeling strangely incomplete.  This week's blogging group decided to veer away from traditional reflective style questions, which is an interesting way of looking at things. I was a little distracted at the start of the week with the news from Australia about a potential change of PM (didn't happen sadly). So the week has felt a bit like an anti-climax.
